Chiesa di San Giovanni della Croce a Colle Salario

Cattolica

Roma, Lazio, Italia

Parish church of San Giovanni della Croce (St John of the Cross) at Via Apecchio 4 in Colle Salario, a residential district on Rome's northern edge that was planned in the mid-1980s. The parish was formally established on 1 July 1989 and the church was consecrated on 6 October 2001. It is dedicated to the Spanish Carmelite mystic and Doctor of the Church John of the Cross (1542-1591). The interior is a large, bright square hall on a central plan, faced in exposed brick, with polychrome stained glass and a ceiling of timber beams. The Italian Bishops' Conference's catalogue of modern churches in Rome credits the design to Carlo Bevilacqua.
